Build a quarterly business review outline from your notes
I prepare business reviews for customers, and the weakest ones are a tour of product features. The strong ones tell the customer's story back to them: what they wanted, what happened, what comes next. AI is very good at finding that story in your notes.
Steps
- Collect the quarter's notes, results and any feedback in one document.
- Remove names and confidential figures, or replace them with ranges.
- Paste the prompt below with your notes.
- Reorder the suggested slides until the story makes sense to you.
- Turn the outline into slides, keeping one idea per slide.
The prompt
Copy it, then replace the [highlighted parts] with your own details.
I am preparing a quarterly business review for [DESCRIBE THE CUSTOMER]. Their main goals for this year are: [LIST 2-3 GOALS]. Here are my notes and results from the last quarter: [PASTE NOTES AND RESULTS] Draft a slide-by-slide outline for a 30-minute review. For each slide give: - A title written as a statement, not a label (e.g. "Onboarding time dropped by a third", not "Onboarding") - Two or three bullet points of supporting detail - One question to ask the customer on that slide Build the story around their goals, not around our product. Keep it to 7 slides or fewer.
What a good result looks like
An illustrative example. The company and figures are made up.
Make it better
- Ask it to write the opening slide as the one sentence your customer's boss would care about.
- Put the uncomfortable slide in the middle, not the end. It reads as honest rather than as an apology.
- Ask which slide could be cut. There is almost always one.
