Turn meeting notes into decisions and action items
I run a meeting note-taker on most of my calls, and the notes are only useful once the decisions and owners are pulled out. This takes five minutes straight after the meeting and saves the "I thought you were doing that" conversation a week later.
Steps
- Straight after the meeting, paste your notes or the transcript into the prompt.
- Check that every action has a real person's name next to it.
- Look hard at the "left open" section. Those are the items that quietly disappear.
- Send the list to everyone who was in the meeting the same day.
The prompt
Copy it, then replace the [highlighted parts] with your own details.
Here are notes from a meeting about [TOPIC]: [PASTE NOTES OR TRANSCRIPT] Give me three lists: 1. Decisions made, one line each 2. Actions, each with an owner and a deadline. If no owner or deadline was stated, write "No owner" or "No date" so I can fix it 3. Questions discussed but left open, with no decision Only include what is in the notes. Do not invent owners or dates.

Make it better
- Ask it to write the email to attendees as well, ready to send.
- Fix every "No owner" before sending. That line is the whole point.
- Run it on a recurring meeting's notes for a month and ask which open questions keep coming back.
